There are many challenges facing this continent and development is one of them. For a continent to be productive and develop it needs a strong economy and infrustructural/material/resource development. Without these in place chances of failure are much much higher and the potential of civil unrests will be written on the walls due to poverty, lack of housing and poor health care.
However my deepest concern with our development is the way in which mental development has been given a back seat during this laborious process called development. The goal of a free and equal society can never be accomplished until education (and I mean quality education) has been offered to both the poor and rich in the continent. We can offer education which gives skill on economic development and all forms of sciences but we should not neglect the necessity of an education that teaches social responsibilty and ethics as these form part of good leadership. Uneducated (as well as some educated) youths and women are been taken advantage of by politicians of both the ruling and opposition parties and this is where the danger lies and many more problems shall arise. Each an every individual has a role to play in the growth of this continent therefore he or she must be developed mentally/psychologically inorder to be able to play a significant role in its development.
I will close with a quote by Haile Selasie I when he said: "A well informed public opinion is essential to the growth of political and social awareness. Only he who is informed can comment intelligently on his nation's development and only by such comments can errors be corrected and progress stimulated...We believe that from truth alone is born liberty and only an educated people can consider itself as really free and master of its fate. It is only with an educated people that representative and democratic organs of government can exercise their influence for national progress."

There is so much that the earth has to offer humans but we have failed to utilise the resources given to us in a sustainable way. There are many human enduced pressures that are exhausting the world's resources but one thing that we must all be aware of is that Greed is the driver of the majority of problems we face socially, politically, economically which ultimately result in environmental degradation.

We should all strive to use to forum to improve where we can and bring a change we want to see in the world. Greed is not only the cause of many problem for the environment but also Poverty, Inequality and Wars! Therefore greed is eating away the environment!
